Everyone might already know this, but the process of healing or the healing journey, as it were, isn’t going to lead us all to the same, capitalism approved, wellness guru promoted, socially legible and enlightened place. This idea of health looking the same for everyone; that success and happiness come from career advancement, nuclear family and physical fitness is a fairy tale.
For some of us, solely focusing on those things is just as unhealthy as doing drugs, eating too much candy and not getting any exercise. We may never achieve a serene acceptance of our conditions, and some of our conditions are unacceptable! In my experience, in my opinion, the purpose of healing or working on oneself isn’t to become pure, renounce sin and strive to be as robot like as possible, it’s to make choices instead of only having automatic reactions.
The purpose is to put you in the driver’s seat, but perhaps you’re in the driver’s seat of a bumper car at the fair. It’s about having access to resources and self awareness that allows us to be understood to ourselves. The work is undoing all the messaging from outside influences that we should value outside opnions more than our own; and we should ignore our intuition. We learn early on it’s a lot safer to go along with what everyone else is saying, rather than try to convince everyone around us.
We learn to ignore discomfort, exhaustion, hunger, irritation, sadness, grief; to pathologize our own inner voice so that it becomes so quiet and unrecognizable we no longer have any contact with ourselves. I’m pretty sure that’s when we start doing things we are ashamed of, things that sabotage our lives and aren’t even fun or exciting. It’s the part of ourselves we were taught to ignore. It can be so unfamiliar that even the simplest suggestion can feel like an outer threat we have to fight against to survive, but that is a huge misconception that I had at least.
I thought that healing equaled, becoming a different person than who I am and that isn’t possible. Someone who wakes up early and is really organized. But that isn’t possible. It’s always a different outcome. We’re all so different! Why would green juice be the solution for everyone? If I’m drinking green juice I am suffering a deep and most likely incurable, malady.
Sending care to all my nutty people out there. “Be yourself everyone else is taken” LOL does anyone remember that motivational poster or whatever it is
